FIX: Windows Spotlight Not Working in Windows 10

In this tutorial, I’ll give you an assistance in fixing the Windows Spotlight issue. I have prepared few fixes for you so let’s check them out:

METHOD 1 – Resetting Windows Spotlight
1. Open Settings.
2. Click on Personalization.
3. Click on Lock screen.
4. Under “Background,” make sure Windows Spotlight is NOT selected and change the option to Picture or Slideshow.
5. Use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command.
6. Type the following path: %USERPROFILE%/AppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewyLocalStateAssets and click OK.
7. Select all the files (Ctrl + A) and hit the DELETE key to clear all old images (if applicable).
8. Use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command again.
9. Type the following path to where the Windows Spotlight settings are stored: %USERPROFILE%/AppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewySettings and click OK.
10. Right-click settings.dat and roaming.lock individually, then click Rename and name them settings.dat.bak and roaming.lock.bak.
11. Restart your computer.

METHOD 2 – Reinstalling Windows Spotlight (alternative method)
1. Open Start.
2. Search for Windows PowerShell, right-click the result, and select Run as administrator.
3. Enter the following command: Get-AppxPackage -allusers *ContentDeliveryManager* | foreach {Add-AppxPackage “$($_.InstallLocation)appxmanifest.xml” -DisableDevelopmentMode -register } and press ENTER to reinstall the Windows Spotlight.
4. Restart your computer.

METHOD 3 – Running the System Maintenance troubleshooter
1. Open Start.
2. Search for Control Panel and open it.
3. In the Control Panel window, search for troubleshooters and click on the best result which should be Troubleshooting.
4. Next, at the top-left corner you should see ‘View all’ option. Click on that to open all available Windows troubleshooters.
5. Now, look for the System Maintenance troubleshooter and run it.
6. It might find some issues and hopefully will fix them for you.
7. Lastly, restart your PC to apply all changes.
8. Now the Windows Spotlight feature should work just fine 🙂

  • Great video and easy to understand! But none of the three worked for me 🙁 I am still missing the "like what you see" tabs and the picture is always the same. Now when I change settings back to Windows Spotlight, the preview is blank. Though the same picture as before shows up on my lock screen…

  • I tried all these steps and it still didn't work. I even went to Windows Central and use the same steps and it didn't work. My lock screen still chooses to go to picture after I chose Spotlight.

  • None of these worked for me, but they were well presented and I appreciate that. For my customer, I had to download a 3rd party app.

  • Delete the contents of the "Settings" folder. Renaming doesn't work. I erased and solved the problem. After deleting Windows + L and wait a few seconds.
